The Encompassment

The Nausts Safe haven for ships in the Viking Era

Four blazing fire cauldrons on wheels to be driven by groups of participants acting as the helmsmen and crew of their own destination. These four distinct directional markers represent symbolically,  four main directions of the Earth marked by the compass  N,S, E,W.

During the week the four directional vessels of fire provide a platform for, fire, drum, and dance performances. Creating a space to unleash the primal stem of the mind through modern reflections of tribal ritual. A place to warm the body and spirit through the visual patterns of glowing metal and dancing flames one finds the reflecting pool of the past, present, and the future. One also finds the opportunity to cast their own specific wish into the fire as a symbol to bring change into their destiny.

With this encompassing energy of the week, the goal is to bring the Voyage to and ending that will reflect as a mirror the journey of the week. Bringing the living art form new meaning to a mass of participants that have all chosen to interact with each other at this organic event

The night of the Burn the four directional vessels of fire are pushed up the promenade as part of the procession encircling The Man finding their safe haven or Nausts. Illuminating images of fire performers wielding their pole and chain create a sea of fire around the burning vessels as ships encompassing The Burning Man, as the fire is encompassing the figure of human kind.
